Making an entry to the crontab in Linux

Edit the file /etc/crontab by adding the following bold line to the end of the file.

PATH=/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin
MAILTO=root
HOME=/

01 * * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.hourly
02 4 * * * root run-parts /etc/cron.daily
